RAJOURI, APRIL 24 (KNS): Apni Party Vice President, and Former Cabinet Minister, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali has directed party leaders and workers to gear-up for Panchayat elections which are likely to be held during this financial year.

Addressing a workers meeting at Kotranka, the Former Cabinet Minister said that the Panchayati elections may be held in the month of September-October in order to strengthen the grass root democracy.

“The genuine and honest people should be elected in panchayats who can ensure grass root level strengthening of democratic institutions with the fulfillment of demand of the people in the villages,” he said.
He said that the developmental activities have slowed down for the last several years under the bureaucratic system and it becomes important for the present Govt to pull up the officials who have delayed the implementation of the developmental schemes on the ground.

“The prestigious projects like Anas Irrigation Canal, Eco-Tourism Park, Budhal - Shopian road and many other projects which were approved by the previous Govts are still to be completed,” he said.

He said that there must be accountability of the officials who have authority to complete the developmental works in their respective areas within a stipulated time frame.

Referring to the very slow pace of developmental works, he expressed shock over no construction of building for the Govt Degree College in Kotranka which was sanctioned in 2018.
“It shows the seriousness of the authorities. The Degree College was sanctioned keeping in view the long pending demand of the people in Kotranka and other demands were also fulfilled by then Govt. The college was sanctioned, but it is very unfortunate its construction work has yet to be started,” he said.
He said that the LG administration has not acted responsibly towards issues of the general masses especially in the rural belt of Jammu and Kashmir.

“If there had been an elected Govt in J&K, the pending developmental projects would have been completed timely. However, the babus have given rise to the feeling of alienation and the people hesitate approaching them due to the existing set-up of bureaucratic rule,” he added.

He said that "The holding of assembly elections are important to restore confidence among the people who have lost their hopes with the present form of Govt. (KNS)
