Srinagar, Oct 10 (KNS): The Civil Engineering Students Association (CESA) of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, on Monday, started a ‘Mega Site-Visit Series’ program.
Under the program, 10+ visits are scheduled over the course of two months to various project/ construction sites in the Kashmir Valley, each with a group of 30+ students.
On Monday, the association successfully organized the first visit to ‘Mega Boys Hostel' project being executed in NIT Srinagar campus.
The site visit was facilitated by the faculty coordinator of CESA Dr. Parameshwar and Assistant Professors Dr. Karthik Desari and Dr. Jitendra Gujjar from the Department of Civil Engineering, NIT Srinagar.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof.(Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal expressed happiness at organizing such activities for the benefit of students.
He emphasized that such sessions should be held very frequently so that the students are introduced to the practical working environment of civil engineering.
Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari lauded the role of the Civil Engineering department and assured the support of the institute administration for such student-friendly initiatives in the future.
He said such practical sessions are the need of the hour and it will explore more in-depth knowledge to the students.
Chairman CESA, Prof. Mohammad Shafi Mir emphasized that the institute would always encourage and facilitate the organization of such technical visits and sessions.
Dr. Mir said that this 'Mega Site-Visit Series' program will go a long way in creating a culture that will ultimately bridge the institute-industry gap.
Dr. Parameshwar, Faculty Coordinator, CESA, expressed his gratitude for the support of the institute towards such activities. He said that the association is looking forward to organise more such events for comprehensive learning of the students.
During the visit, the students were given a brief introduction about the project followed by a tour of the complete construction site. The students were up-skilled about the structural elements of the mega building. The students were also educated about the materials and processes involved in the construction.
The branch-oriented visit helped the students of civil engineering to gain practical and deeper knowledge about the structural and construction elements.
CESA expressed special regards to the project manager Er. Abid Hussain, Junior Engineer Er. Nadeem, State Engineer Er. Aubaid, and Er. Mansoor Ahmed for their great help and cooperation during the entire visit.(KNS)
