Central Government Employees Can Use Existing Leave for Elderly Care

Srinagar, July 25 (KNS): The Central Government has clarified that its employees may use their existing leave entitlements to care for their elderly parents, as per the Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, 1972.

Responding to a query in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh, stated that government staff are entitled annually to 30 days of earned leave, 20 days of half-pay leave, 8 days of casual leave, and 2 restricted holidays. These leave options can be used for any personal reason, including looking after elderly family members.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The clarification came following a question by MP Sumitra Balmik, who asked whether there was a specific leave provision for elderly care, similar to the existing child care leave, and whether the ministry had plans to introduce such a facility.

Dr. Singh noted that while no exclusive elderly care leave currently exists, the available leave categories can be availed for that purpose. (KNS)
