Canadian Deputy High Commissioner calls on Mirwaiz

Srinagar, Oct 21 (KNS): Canadian Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi, Jess Dutton and Councilor, Gillian FrostWednesday called on Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his Mirwaiz Manzil residence at Nigeen and held detailed deliberations with him.
Besides delving on the issues of mutual interest, the Mirwaiz told the Canadian envoys that the silence maintained by the international community over the deteriorating political and human rights situation in Kashmir was most unfortunate.
He said in Jammu Kashmir, military might and excessive force was being used to suppress and crush the political, social, and religious rights of the people who are subjected to grave human rights violations.
Expressing concern that Jammu Kashmir had been turned into a Police State, the Hurriyat (M) Chairman told the Canadian envoys that draconian black laws like the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) were in place in Kashmir to cow down the Kashmiri people seeking their right to self-determination.
Informing the Canadian Deputy Commissioner about the present political situation in Jammu Kashmir, the Mirwaiz said it was deteriorating and becoming chaotic with the Armed forces and police indulging in grave human rights violations, carrying arrests and house arrests of the resistance leadership, and arresting unarmed innocent youth.
Hurriyat (M) Chairman also expressed concern over the deadlock in India-Pakistan talks and said dialogue was the only way of resolving conflicts during the present times but New Delhi’s rigid and hardline stance over parleys has become the main impediment in the way.
He told the Canadian envoys that in such circumstances, the international community needed to play a role in the resumption of India-Pakistan talks and ensure that the Kashmiri leadership was on board for the resolution of Kashmir issue as per the wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Mirwaiz told the Canadian envoys that until Kashmir issue was resolved, it was not possible to achieve development, peace, political stability and economic prosperity in the region.
Condemning the incidents of the growing number of murderous assaults on the minorities in India, the APHC Chairman also raised his concern with the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner about these disturbing events where Muslims, Dalits and other minorities were under attack of the Hindu fanatics and extremist groups.
He said by arousing communal passions and by creating an atmosphere of polarization in Jammu Kashmir, these fanatics were trying to flare up religious and sectarian hatred.
The Mirwaiz also brought in the notice of the envoys the recent killing of a Kashmiri youth, Zahid Rasool Bhat by the Hindu fanatics on the Srinagar-Jammu highway at Udhampur.
Meanwhile Hurriyat (M) Chairman has strongly condemned the physical assault and arrest of the senior resistance leaders, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Javaid Ahmad Mir, and other Hurriyat leaders and activists and use of excessive forces on peaceful protestors in Srinagar, Islamabad and others areas of Kashmir.
He also condemned the use of terror tactics like cane charging, beating, tear gas shelling, and arresting of youth by the Indian forces.
The spokesman of the Hurriyat (M) ,in a statement to KNS, has said that Mirwaiz has been placed under house arrest by the authorities and a large contingent of police has been deployed at his Nigeen residence.
Condemning his house arrest, he said the resistance leadership was being chocked and all their rights trampled. (KNS)
