Srinagar, Oct 22 (KNS): Can the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) take advantage of the ongoing rift within the National Conference (NC) between Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and the party leadership ahead of the Budgam Assembly by-election? However, PDP’s candidate from the constituency, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, denied any such notion, saying he has nothing to do with the internal issues of the NC.
“It’s their own rift. Both leaders belong to the NC. Whether they will campaign or not, I will not interfere in their internal matter,” Muntazir told KNS.
The remarks came as the National Conference leadership had appealed to Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi to support party candidate Aga Syed Mehmood in the Budgam by-election.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and party spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq urged the MP to join the campaign, calling him an integral part of the NC.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Aga Syed Mehmood had urged Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi to support his campaign, noting Ruhullah’s long association with the National Conference and the party’s role in shaping his political career.
Ruhullah, however, stayed away from the campaign, citing his loyalty to personal principles, and left for New Delhi.
His team later issued a notice asking political parties and campaigners not to use his images for election purposes.
Despite his absence, NC leaders said the party would continue its outreach and campaign in Budgam ahead of the November 11 by-election.(KNS)
