Jammu, Mar 27 (KNS): In a function, today, organized at Government Primary School Doda Basti Beli Charana Jammu, campaign for “Clean Environment, Green Environment” was launched by Shiv K Arora Retired Senior Government Officers who was also chief guest on the occasion.
Apart from S. Gurcharan Singh Chairman of Public Charitable Trust We the Human, Sh. K K Sharma Retired director Floriculture, Dr. Anuradha Gupta Scientist from J&KPCB, Sh. Kulbushan Khajuria renowned Farmers’ leader & Chairman J&K Agricultural Entrepreneurs Association, Sh. Vivek Shahi Project Director Actech and a veteran social activist S. Prem Singh were guest of honor, on the occasion. Sh. Shiv K Arora appreciated the services being provided by the trust for protection of environment and also exhorted the trust management to organize such functions in all rural including remote areas of the state.
Addressing people of Beli Charana and adjoining areas, the resource person, Sh. A K Verma said that, today, a major challenge emerged before humanity in our state as well as India, is about disposal of bio-degradable as well as non bio-degradable garbage as well as bio medical wastes. Referring to a recent news, recently, where a three-Judge Bench comprising Justices Madan B Lokur, Kurian Joseph and Deepak Gupta of Supreme Court of India had asked Additional Solicitor General A. N. S Nadkarni, representing GoI, “Are the centre, states and UT governments in India waiting for the atom bomb of garbage to explode?”
He said that there is not only need for governments in the state to take concrete measures, but also for common public to change its mindsets about disposal of household as well as other garbage/ waste. For that, we have taken an initiative, in J&K, by launching aggressive campaign on this issue. He asked the locals gathered there to plant trees on all vacant pieces of land as well as on river Tawi bank, for which the trust will provide them saplings of trees like Banyan, Peepal, Neem, Amla, Mangoes, Gauva and Papaya etc.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channelfree of cost.
K K Sharma, retired Director Floriculture emphasized for working all together to accomplish the mission set by our Prime Minister to double income of farmers by year 2020. He exhorted the farmer community to go for diversification of crop and follow the mission “rural prosperity through floriculture & aromatic plants”. He informed the gathering that, already a number of farmers in Jammu province have shifted to flower & medicinal plants crop and earning a good profit.
Dr. Anuradha Gupta Scientist J&K Pollution Control Board gave practical demonstration for conversion of household garbage into organic manure using microbial composting culture and use of same organic manure for production of vegetables as well as flowers in their homes, which not only will increase their income but also will beautify the area. She exhorted them not to use polythene, which is purely non biodegradable and non absorbing with environment for hundreds of years and generally a nuisance for environment, drainage system and animals including cow family.
Kulbushan Khajuria emphasized for shifting of agriculturalists from the “agricultural package” of Green Revolution back to traditional system of agricultural farming, which not only will improve the degraded ecological balance of soil, but also will fetch more prices for crop produced using organic techniques as the same will be comparatively safer for human health, as well.
Vivek Shahi Project Director Ac-Tech distributed seeds of vegetables free of cost among the females, present there and also gave them techniques to grow organic vegetables in their kitchen garden and on roofs. (KNS)
