Jammu, Oct 27 (KNS): The BJP on Tuesday said the National Conference government’s cabinet expansion in Jammu and Kashmir cannot divert attention from unfulfilled election promises, corruption allegations and reported differences within the ruling establishment.
BJP senior leader and Udhampur East MLA Ranbir Singh Pathania said the government must answer questions about its pre-election commitments, allegations of corruption against ministers and concerns reportedly raised by legislators at Dachigam.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), Pathania said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had assured that the issues would be addressed, but the public was still awaiting details of concrete action taken by the government.
He also questioned the reported rebuke of legislators over alleged lobbying for ministerial berths, saying elected representatives had the right to raise public concerns and seek a hearing from the chief minister.
“Is the government more concerned about managing ministerial positions than managing the expectations of the people? Can a cabinet reshuffle substitute for delivery, transparency and accountability?

He said allegations of corruption should be investigated fairly and responsibility fixed wherever wrongdoing was established.
The BJP leader said the cabinet expansion should not become an exercise in managing internal dissent while public concerns remained unaddressed.
“Jammu and Kashmir needs governance, not political manoeuvring; accountability, not assurances; and delivery on promises, not another round of reshuffling,” he said, adding that the government’s performance should be judged by its delivery and transparency.
Meanwhile, four National Conference legislators — Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mir Saifullah, Shamim Firdous and Altaf Ahmad Wani, also known as Altaf Kalloo — are expected to be inducted into the Council of Ministers today, according to the details available.
With one minister likely to be dropped, the strength of the Council of Ministers, including the chief minister, is expected to rise from six to nine, the maximum permitted in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
