Srinagar, Dec 28 (KNS): Deputy Inspector General of Police Central Kashmir Range, Sujit Kumar on Tuesday said thad building owner Altaf Ahmad Bhat was used as human shield by foreign militant and got killed in the cross-fire in Hyderpora encounter last month.

Addressing a press conference along with Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh and Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kumar, he said that a local militant from Jammu Amir Magrey was staying with a foreign militant Bilal alias Saqlain alias Chotu in the chamber of Dr Mudasir Gul inside the building, where the encounter took place. 

He said that the duo was using Mudasir’s chamber as hideout, while Amir Magrey on the day of encounter lied about the presence of foreign militant inside the building.

DIG, who is heading the SIT constituted to carry out investigation into Hyderpora encounter after massive outcry, said that building owner Altaf Ahmad Bhat was used as human shield by foreign militant in a bid to escape from the building and during the process Altaf was killed in cross fire.

While giving a detailed presentation about the investigations carried out into the Hydeprora encounter, Kumar said that the CCTV footage and other evidences show that building owner Altaf was used as a human shield by the foreign militant Bilal Bhai.

“CCTV footage and other evidences show that Amir Magray had accompanied the foreign militant during Jamalata Srinagar attack. Amir would often travel to Bandipora and Gurez, an angle which is still under investigation,” Kumar said.

He said that prima-facie evidences shows that Dr Mudasir Gul was shot dead by the foreign militant on the attic of the building, from where his body was recovered later. 

He said that Amir Magray was a militant and he had gone to Darul Uloom Rahimiya in Bandipora for studies but left mid-way. “He would frequently visit Bandipora and back to Srinagar and had also visited Gurez twice during his visit to Bandipora,” he said.

DIG also said that two pistols and four magazines were recovered from the encounter site.

He also said that the family of building owner hasn’t given them a proper reply as to who was living on rent and what was their rent payment system, rent deed etc. 

“There are no satisfactory details from Altaf’s family,” he said, adding that some reports are still awaited as samples have been sent to Delhi and Chandigarh for ballistic forensic investigations.

DIG also said that SIT is still open as investigation into the incident is still going on. (KNS)
