Budgam Bypoll: Key candidates submit nomination papers

Srinagar, Oct 20 (KNS): The nomination process for the Budgam assembly seat concluded on Monday, with major party contenders officially filing their candidacies for the upcoming by-election.
Representatives from the National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) submitted their documents at the designated election office in Budgam. The filing marked the final day for submitting papers for the vacant seat.

The National Conference put forward Aga Syed Mehmood, who was accompanied by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during the submission. The PDP’s contender, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, was joined by legislator Waheed Rehman Parra. BJP’s nominee, Aga Syed Mohsin, filed his papers with the support of the party’s opposition leader, Sunil Sharma.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The by-election follows the vacating of the Budgam seat by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He retained the Ganderbal constituency after the 2024 Assembly elections, leaving Budgam open for the electoral contest.

Polling for the Budgam seat is scheduled for November 11. Election authorities have confirmed that the counting of votes will be conducted on November 14, as part of the standard process.

Election officials noted that security arrangements and logistical measures are being planned to facilitate smooth conduct of voting, with personnel deployed across various polling stations to maintain order and oversee the electoral procedures.(KNS)
