Budgam-Banihal train extended to Katra, Vistadome coach added to boost tourism

Jammu, Feb 11 (KNS) : In a move aimed at improving connectivity and promoting tourism in the region, the Jammu division of Northern Railway has extended the special train operating on the Budgam-Banihal route to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, officials said Wednesday.

Train number 04688/04687, now extended to the Vaishno Devi shrine’s base camp, will provide seamless rail connectivity between Kashmir and the Jammu region, they said.

A Vistadome coach fitted with glass roofs and large transparent windows has been attached to the train to offer passengers an immersive travel experience, officials added.

“The initiative is part of the railways’ efforts to enhance passenger amenities and promote tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. Over 600 passengers availed the service on the first day of its extension,” Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Passengers travelling on the maiden extended journey expressed appreciation, saying the train now offers a direct link between Banihal and Katra, benefiting both pilgrims and tourists.

The route provides views of key engineering marvels, including the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River and the country’s first cable-stayed Anji Khad Bridge.

Local residents and visitors welcomed the decision, describing it as a significant step toward better integration of the Valley with the rest of the country through the rail network. (KNS)
