BRO Achieves Breakthrough of 700-mtr Long Tunnel On ‘Golden Arc Road’

Srinagar, January 28 (KNS): The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Sunday achieved a significant breakthrough in the 'Golden Arc Road' by completing the 700-meter-long Naushera tunnel on the Akhnoor-Poonch National Highway (NH-144A). 
 
Talking to reporters after both the ends of the tunnel met during construction, senior offical of, Border Roads Organisation said that BRO is actively advancing crucial road projects to connect remote areas with major centers in the Jammu-Poonch region. The Jammu-Poonch link is on track for completion in the coming years.

He said the Golden Arc Road, a crucial 200 km stretch linking south Kashmir-Jammu to the west of Jammu, has reached a milestone with the completion of the Naushera Tunnel, a key part of National Highway-144A connecting Akhnoor to Poonch.

He said this road connects vital border districts like Akhnoor, Rajouri, and Poonch. The 700-meter tunnel plays a pivotal role in linking Akhnoor and Poonch, joining other significant tunnels on the route, including Kandi tunnel, Sungal tunnel, and Bhimber Gali tunnel.

The BRO achieved a breakthrough in the Kandi tunnel last year on November 25, highlighting their efforts to enhance connectivity in Rajouri and Poonch areas. The National Highway project is progressing swiftly and is anticipated to be completed by 2026, ahead of schedule, BRO said.

Regarding the development of defense infrastructure along the LoC, DG BR said that BRO is committed to strengthen defense infrastructure by building and upgrading strategic roads along the IB, LC, and LAC.

He said that BRO is dedicated to create, connect, care, and safeguard lives in its area of responsibility, believing in the principle that 'Roads Build Nation.' 

The organization remains devoted to constructing border road infrastructure to drive socio-economic progress, he added.(KNS)
