Srinagar, Aug 02 (KNS): In a press conference, party heads and representatives of British Kashmiri organisations expressed their grave concern regarding the illegal detention of Shabir Ahmad Shah, Chairman Democratic Freedom Party (DFP).
According to a statement issued to KNS, amongst those present who addressed the print and electronic media were Dr. Misfar Hassan, President Jammu Kashmir Liberation League, Shawkat Maqbool Bhatt (Shaheed Maqbool Bhatt's son) of National Awami Party, Mahmood Kashmiri, Chairman Jammu Kashmir National Independence Alliance, Councillor Mohammed Hussain, President Kashmir Freedom Movement, Latif Sani Advocate of Liberation League and Amjah Yusuf of United Kashmir People's National Party. In addition to the aforementioned delegates, there were numerous others in attendance at the conference.
Mahmood Kashmiri said that Shabir Ahmad Shah is an icon of the present Kashmir movement and denying him basic living conditions in a small cell without a fan is a shameful act by the government of India. He added that such brazen denial of fundamental human rights of a political leader of Shah’s stature and repute must be brought to the immediate attention of the human rights organisations of the world.
Shawkat Bhatt said, referring to Shabir Shah that a leader who has spent 30 years in Jail, in pursuit of the betterment of the people of Kashmir cannot be harassed by such Indian tactics. India is wasting time by pressurizing Shabir Ahmad Shah.
Dr Misfar Hassan said that such Illegal arrest of a world famous leader in a case which has been disposed off by the courts 7 years ago is an affront to principle of justice.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe further said that this was nothing but a political vendetta and that Shah cannot be forced by the authorities to succumb to their ill motives by employing these shameful tactics.
Councilor Mohammed Hussain said that this is a shameful act perpetrated by the Government to detain the most popular leader of Kashmir who is the first Kashmiri to receive the title of 'prisoner of conscience' and is popularly known as the Nelson Mandela of Kashmir and has spent 30 years, amounting to half of his life, in several jails and torture centres. The Councilor added that Shabir Shah suffers from hypertension and diabetes and his continued detention in a small cell in such blistering heat without access to even a small fan is derogation of his basic Human rights which continue to be violated by the enforcement department at its whim.
On a separate occasion in London, Zakir Kiyani of Muslim League, Chaudry Meherban of Muslim Conference, Dr Saboor of Peoples' Party, Sardar Shuaib of JK Human Rights Movement, Shama Nazir of British Kashmiri Women's Forum, Irshad Malik London based Kashmiri solicitor, Advocate Manzoor Ahmad Shah, Advocate Salim Bhatt, Ulfat Zargar, Professor S Iqbal in a joint statement condemned the illegal detention of senior most Kashmiri leader. They also expressed their intention to write to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the UK, Amnesty International, All Parties Parliamentary Group on Kashmir in the British parliament and other members of parliament.
