Srinagar, Feb 14 (KNS) ; In a significant political development ahead of the upcoming urban local body polls, several prominent figures from north Kashmir's Baramulla district joined the Jammu & Kashmir National Congress (JKPCC) here on Saturday.
JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra formally inducted the new members into the party fold at a function held at the party headquarters. The induction ceremony was presided over by AICC General Secretary Incharge J&K, Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain, and was also attended by AICC General Secretary and CLP Leader G.A. Mir.
Among those who crossed over to the Congress were Mudasir Ahmad Tantray, former Deputy Chairperson of the Municipal Council (MC) Baramulla and a leader of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP). He was accompanied by Dr. Irfan Nazir, a noted social activist; Tariq Ahmad Bhat, also from the AIP; and Irshad Ahmad Bhat, a social activist from the Bandipayeeb area.

Welcoming the new entrants, the senior Congress leadership expressed satisfaction that the party continues to be the "people's voice" in the region. They asserted that the party represents the urges and aspirations of the masses to the best of its ability.
Speaking on the occasion, the newly inducted leaders expressed full confidence in the leadership of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. They hailed the party's "uncompromising fight" for the welfare of weaker sections and marginalized communities across the country. The new members lauded the contributions of Kharge and Gandhi towards public well-being, stating that the duo represents the masses "in the true sense." (KNS)
