Jammu/Srinagar: May 09 (KNS): Loud explosions were heard in Jammu city late Friday, plunging the region into darkness as sirens blared across the area, officials confirmed.
In Srinagar, mosque loudspeakers urged residents to switch off their lights as a safety measure.
The incident comes amid ongoing cross-border shelling by Pakistan, following India’s recent strikes on terror hideouts as part of Operation Sindoor.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shared updates on social media, reporting continuous sounds of heavy artillery. “Intermittent blasts, probably from heavy artillery, can be heard from here,” he posted on X.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Abdullah also shared a photo of Jammu city in darkness, writing, “Blackout in Jammu now. Sirens can be heard across the city.”
In a public appeal, he urged residents to stay indoors. “It’s my earnest appeal to everyone in and around Jammu — please stay off the streets, stay at home or at the nearest safe place for the next few hours. Avoid rumours and unverified news. We’ll get through this together,” he added.(KNS)
