Srinagar, Jan 5 (KNS): The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Tuesday said that the coalition partners in Jammu and Kashmir have not reached on consensus to elevate Mehbooba Mufti as Chief Minister of the state.
“The BJP has received no such proposal from the PDP that Mehbooba Mufti will take over as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir nor have the coalition partners reached on any consensus over it. Once we receive any such proposal from the PDP, we will consider it and the issue will also be raised with BJP Core Group,” BJP State President Sat Sharma told KNS in an interview in Jammu.
He also prayed for the speedy recovery of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
There are speculations that Mehbooba Mufti may take over as Chief Minister after Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s fragile health who was admitted to New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) on December 24 after he complained of uneasiness and was flown to New Delhi in a state air craft.
Sharma said the government should strengthen the village defence committee (VDC) members who had controlled the militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Government must strengthen the VDCs by whom the militancy has been controlled in the state,” the BJP President said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
There have been demand in Kashmir and in some Muslim dominated areas of Jammu region for disbanding of VDCs in the state even some PDP leaders have demanded for the same. The demand for disbanding VDCs has increased in the backdrop of killings of three persons including an NC youth leader, mother and her four-year-son by VDCs members.
Over dialogue between the Centre and separatists, the BJP President said the New Delhi should hold talks only those groups who accept Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of India.
“There is nothing wrong who want to hold talks within the ambit of the India Constitution. But those who oppose it, there is no purpose of holding dialogue with them,” he said.
Sharma said it is not possible for our party to revoke the Article 370 while being in the coalition. “We have to run the government as per the common minimum programme with PDP. Once we get 2/3 majority in J&K, party will think over it,” the BJP President said.
Sharma admitted there was corruption in the state and the present government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was working to eliminate it in the state. “We are committed for development of the state,” he added. (KNS)
