BJP misquoting Supreme Court law on Article 370: Hasnain Masoodi

"Our demand is assembly elections should be held sooner"

Srinagar, Jul 01 (KNS): National Conference leader and MP from South Kashmir Justice retired Hasnain Masoodi said that BJP cannot abrogate Article 370 as the Supreme Court of the county in 2017 gave a ruling that the article is a permenant feature of the constitution.

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) from New Delhi, Masoodi said that BJP is misquoting SC ruling and history for political reasons.

"In 2017 Supreme Court said that Article 370 is a permenant feature of the constitution. What home minister said in the parliament that the article is temporary he has misquoting the law. It is beyond doubt that the article is a permenant feature which cannot be modified or tampered with," he said.

Home minister Amit Shah had in his speech in parliament said that Article 370 is temporary and not permenant, and BJP stands with abrogating it.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

"They (BJP) know it (Supreme Court ruling), and that is why it was not mentioned in the presidential address. For political reasons, BJP is saying about its abrogation to send a message to its constituency that they have a muscular policy," Masoodi said.

On holding assembly elections, Masoodi said that Home Minister didn't mention law and order as a reason to delay elections in the state.

"Home Minister cited reasons of month of Ramadhan, Amarnath Yatra and seasonal migration of Gujjar and Bakerwal shepherds. Our demand is that assembly elections should be held as soon as possible," he said. (KNS)
