Srinagar, Feb 23 (KNS): Terming the statement made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader wherein he had said that ‘guest control order’ is attack on religious affairs of Hindu as ‘wrong statement’, the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Minister, Chowdhary Zulfikar Ali on Thursday said that almost 22 organizations mostly Hindu’s had submitted memorandum, demanding ban in ‘wealthy’ functions.
Talking to KNS, Ali said, “We have received a lot of requests from the people especially from the Hindu organizations who had also submitted memorandum before me, urging to put ban on wealthy functions.”
He said, “Anybody raising the issue over it should come and give then a solution in this regard.”
Saying that it is social reform, Zulfikar said, “We took this decision over the requests of various religious groups, mostly Hindu’s.”
Terming the order as in the favour of poor section of the society, Ali said, “The political party doesn’t represent the religions but the whole society.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelI believe that most of the people in the society have welcomed the decision.”
He said that people who are spending huge money on the functions are leaving the poor section of the society to suffer. “The wealthy marriage functions are compelling the poor section of the society to spend huge money in the functions, which they can’t afford. Keeping in view of these things, we have issued this order. I believe the order is neither against any religion nor has hurt anyone’s sentiments,” he said.
Asked about the people’s demand of putting ban on dowry system, CAPD Minister said, “It is just a beginning and we will try to ban the dowry system as well.”
Pertinently, Government on Tuesday issued an order putting a slab on the number of guests to be invited in marriages and parties.
As per the order issued by J&K Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister (CAPD), hosts can invite 500 guests for daughter's marriage and 400 for son's marriage. The order would come effective from April, this year. (KNS)
