BJP in panic over NC’s statehood campaign, resorting to misinformation on stability of CM Omer led Govt: Sadhotra

JAMMU, June 14 (KNS): National Conference Additional General Secretary and Former

Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of failing to play the role of a constructive and dignified
opposition in Jammu and Kashmir and instead indulging in a campaign aimed at misleading public opinion over stability of Jenab Omar Abdullah led government .

Addressing a public meeting at MUTHI Ward No. 67 in Jammu North Assembly Constituency, Sadhotra said the BJP has become a frustrated political outfit that is unable to reconcile with the decisive mandate given by the people of Jammu and Kashmir to the National Conference under the leadership of Dr Farooq Abdullah and
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He said the repeated rhetoric emanating from BJP
leaders regarding the stability and future of the elected government only exposes their political insecurity and disconnect from public sentiment.

“The National Conference has secured a clear and decisive mandate from the people and the Omar Abdullah-led government will complete its full term with the continued support and confidence of the people,” Sadhotra asserted, adding that the
BJP should come to terms with the reality that the National Conference remains the premier grassroots-based political force in Jammu and Kashmir and will continue
serving the people in the years and terms to come.
Highlighting the National Conference’s long history of public service,
Sadhotra said the party has consistently stood with the people during difficult times and worked for strengthening democratic institutions and safeguarding the interests of all regions and communities. In contrast, he said the BJP has thrived on divisive politics by attempting to polarise society on religious lines.
“The BJP repeatedly creates an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty by
projecting that India is in danger or that Hindus are in danger whenever it suits its political agenda.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelSuch narratives are driven by political expediency and are aimed at diverting attention from real issues confronting the people,” he said.

Sadhotra cautioned the BJP leadership to understand the pulse of the people in both the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region, who are united in their demand for restoration of statehood and protection of democratic rights. He said the aspirations of the people cannot be ignored indefinitely and any attempt to undermine these legitimate demands would only deepen public resentment.

Referring to the proposed protest by National Conference Members of
Parliament and legislators in New Delhi, Mr Sadhotra said the BJP was visibly rattled by the growing momentum behind the statehood movement. He said the BJP’s nervous reaction shows its fear of being exposed for failing to honour repeated
commitments made regarding restoration of statehood.

“The demand for restoration of statehood is rooted in promises made on the floor of Parliament and assurances placed before the Supreme Court. The people of Jammu and Kashmir expect these commitments to be fulfilled without further delay,” he said.

Sadhotra reminded the BJP that restoration of statehood has been part of its own political narrative. He urged the party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit to rise above partisan considerations and impress upon its central leadership and the Union Government to restore statehood in accordance with the aspirations of the people
and the commitments already made.

He reiterated that the National Conference will continue its democratic
struggle for restoration of statehood and protection of the constitutional and
democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
