Bandipora, Sept 26 (KNS): Former legislator and senior PC leader Nizamuddin Bhat has urged Animal Husbandry Department to prevent fast spreading unknown disease among bovines in Bandipora, which is endangering the cattle population as a whole.
Bhat, in a statement issued here, said it seems the efforts of local animal husbandry units at district level have yet been able to assess and find proper treatment as there is no relief from the disease catching animals in a serious condition.
Bhat said that several animals in Quil, Mangnipora, Turkpora and adjoining villages, though under treatment don't recover and for a few the unknown disease has proved fatal spreading panic.
Bhat has sought intervention of the animal husbandry directorate to send medical teams for ascertaining actual nature of the disease and ensure its prevention from spread to other villages.
The effected villages, he said, are well known for cow rearing and milk production and any negligence or failure is likely to deprive vast population from their major source of sustenance, besides bringing the animal population to serious harm.
He hoped that department concerned will gear up all its resources for early and appropriate action.(KNS)
