Covidshield vaccine administered to health workers in 40 centers in Kashmir: Dir. Health

Srinagar 16 january (KNS): Hoping to end a pandemic that has killed 1,51,918 people in the country and ravaged the economy, the vaccination drive held across the kashmir valley along with other parts of the country.

The drive Was commenced and four thousand health workers got vaccinated today. The first shots were given to heads of Hospitals, Sub Hospitals and medical colleges of the valley.

The inaugural Function of this vaccination was held at Sheri Kashmir institute of medical sciences Soura Wherein Advisor to Lt Governor, R R Bhatnagar and deputy commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Shahid Choudhary were present while as Lt. Goverener, Manoj Sinha Inaugurated the vaccination Drive in jammu.

Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Sameer Matoo, while talking to news agency-kashmir news service said that the Covidshield vaccine was today administered to health workers in 40 centers in Kashmir.

He further said that "These centers include District and Sub District hospitals, medical colleges and added that 79000 doses were received  in Kashmir. 


"After the healthcare workers and anganwadi workers, the vaccine would be administered to frontline workers, forces Paramilitary forces, revenue officials, and more persons with more than 50 years of age in phases. It will be done in phases and a schedule has been formulated", he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that j&k on Wednesday received the first batch of covid-19 vaccine (covishield) from Serum institute of india Pune, as many as 1,46,500 doses of vaccines were received out of which kashmir division received 79,000 and Jammu Division received 67,500 (KNS).
