CM Omar Abdullah says receiving station will be operational within five months

Beerwah, Oct 23 (KNS): With winter approaching, Beerwah in Budgam district is set to get a transformer repair workshop and a new electricity receiving station aimed at reducing prolonged power outages and addressing overloading in the area.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday laid the foundation stones for the two facilities, involving a combined investment of Rs 9.35 crore, during his visit to Beerwah.

The proposed transformer repair workshop, sanctioned at Rs 4.85 crore, will have the capacity to repair around 1,000 damaged distribution transformers annually.

The facility is expected to reduce dependence on repair centres outside the area and shorten the time required to restore electricity following transformer failures, particularly during winter when demand increases.

A 10 MVA receiving station at Sail, sanctioned at Rs 4.50 crore, is intended to ease pressure on existing receiving stations and improve electricity supply to Sail and adjoining villages.

Abdullah said the receiving station was expected to become operational within four to five months, while efforts would be made to complete the transformer workshop at the earliest.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

During the visit, the Chief Minister also inaugurated a Rs 8 crore bridge over Nallah Sukhnag, fulfilling a long-pending demand of local residents. The bridge comprises two spans of 35 metres each.

He also laid the foundation stones for beautification works along Nallah Sukhnag and Beerwah town at an estimated cost of Rs 6.33 crore, including walkways, lighting and riverfront development.

Another project announced during the visit was a Sub-Divisional Office building at Sonpah, sanctioned at Rs 82.29 lakh.

The projects inaugurated and announced during the visit involve an investment of approximately Rs 25 crore.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, MLA Beerwah Dr Shafi Ahmed Wani and senior government officials accompanied the Chief Minister. (KNS)
