Beerwah, Dec 28 (KNS): Residents of Beerwah town are grappling with an acute shortage of drinking water for the past four days, forcing many households to depend on unsafe and polluted water sources to meet their daily needs.

Locals said many families are now fetching water from polluted sources, raising fears of diseases.

Farooq Ahmad Dar, a resident of Beerwah, said the situation has become unbearable. “We have no drinking water for 4 days. We are forced to collect water from unsafe sources, which can lead to diseases. Authorities must provide tankers now,” he added.

Residents appealed to the administration for temporary alternative arrangements, saying winter is at its peak and clean water is a basic need.

"Families, children and elderly people are suffering.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelWe request the government to provide water tankers till the pipeline work is completed,” they said.

Locals urged the district administration to plan essential services better during infrastructure work so people do not face long disruptions.

Meanwhile an official from Jal Shhakti department from Beerwah said the supply disruption happened due to shifting of pipelines for Bailey bridge pillar construction on Sukhnag River.

“Pipeline shifting was required due to the construction of Bailey bridge pillars on Sukhnag. The work was unavoidable and is going on. We are trying to restore the water supply at the earliest. People will be supported if tankers are available through administration,” the official said.(KNS)
