Xen R&B rebuffs claims, says allegations baseless; ‘BDC has no authority to stop work’

Handwara, Feb 20 (KNS):  Block Development Council member Mawer along with residents of various villagers Monday stopped the construction work of a bridge on Nallah Hardkhari in Haril village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district over using of sub-standard material in the construction work. 

Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), BDC member Tahir Ahmad said he was approached by the locals with the compliant that the concerned engineer and the contractor compromised on the quality of the material used in the construction. 

He said that the locals raised apprehensions that  using poor quality material in the construction of the bridge would pose danger to thousands of live. 

“Later, I reached at the spot and found the complaints made locals true. In broad day light corruption is going on under the eye of Xen R&B Handwara, as the material that is being used won’t even last for a month, they are posing threat to the lives of thousands of people,” he alleged. 

Meanwhile, the locals asked for a fair probe by LG administration and said the work should be handed over to some other department. 

When contacted Xen R&B Handwara, Suhail Ahmad said that the allegations were baseless as he himself visited the spot and found no use of sub-standard material in the construction work. 

“We are regularly monitoring the work, however, a minor mix of scrap was found, that won’t affect the quality of the work. We are still rectifying that and ensure long lasting life of the bridge,” he asid.

He added that work is going smoothly, and BDC has no authority to stop the construction work. (KNS)
