Srinagar, June 08 (KNS): The Government in reply to my Question said that 63904 Cfts of Timber was distributed to 5444 Persons in the division last year but they could not furnish details "He said and added that they could furnish the names of only 450 Persons whom timber was distributed from Lidder Forest division.
Government failed to provide details of applicants of all 5442 sanctionies. Name of verification team it's members, RO'S procedures adopted for issuance of sanctionies was asked to be provided which they failed. Criteria for supply of timber was told is being provided on first come first basis. Dr Veeri questioned as to why 2400 sanctionies of 2013-14 & 14-15 were cancelled. Govt couldn't justify the act on which member agitated that you are concealing facts to cover up the timber mafia. This is tip of iceberg as to how natural resources of state are looted in the name of common and poor masses. Veeri displayed few papers from reply which were birth & death certificates. Dr Veeri walked out showing these papers which have been inserted in reply to increase the bulk to confuse while perusing the reply. Dr Veeri shouted that this is tip of iceberg of big timber embezzlement scam which needs high level enquiry. He was recommending constitution of house committee on the issue. DFO Katoo & then DFO Himayun are directly involved in the big scam and embezzlement of six crore and thirty nine lakh of rupees but no necessary action has been taken against these officials. (KNS)
