Srinagar, Nov 8 (KNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency currently has no representation in Parliament, which is why Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan was selected from North Kashmir for the Rajya Sabha to ensure the region’s voice is heard in the national legislature.
Omar made the remarks while responding to questions about jailed Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid’s son, who had alleged that the National Conference rigged the 1987 elections.
Referring to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Omar said that people were told Engineer Rashid would be released after winning the Baramulla seat. “They had asked for votes for his release.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelBut what happened? Baramulla did not get an MP. To fill that gap, we sent Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan Sahib to the Rajya Sabha so that North Kashmir would at least have a representative in Parliament,” he said, as per KNS.
He said that even today, there is no Member of Parliament from North Kashmir. “Forget about 1987, let’s talk about last year. They asked for a vote for the release of his father, but that did not happen,” Omar said.
Targeting the PDP, Omar said that his government returned to power after 11 years. “What happened in those 11 years? Ask those who ruled during that time,” he said.(KNS)
