Srinagar, Feb 16 (KNS) : In a major crackdown against the illegal timber trade, Baramulla Police have seized a huge consignment of forest wood and arrested a smuggler in the Kunzer area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district.
Police in a statement issued to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) acting on a specific tip-off regarding smuggling of timber in the Goigam area, a police party was immediately rushed to the spot. During the search operation, authorities recovered a large quantity of illegal timber, including 38 window frames and several wooden planks, from the possession of the accused.
A case has been registered at Police Station Kunzer under FIR No. 13/2026. The accused has been booked under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Indian Forest Act.
A police spokesperson said a thorough investigation has been taken up to dismantle the smuggling network the statement further reads.
Notably, authorities have maintained a strict vigil against timber smuggling in the region, with security forces regularly conducting anti-smuggling operations to protect the valley's depleting forest wealth. (KNS)
