Baramulla, Dec 04 (KNS): Baramulla Police on Wednesday ensured the preservation of a centuries-old stone sculpture discovered on the outskirts of Gulmarg during a routine patrol by Police Station Gulmarg.
Officials said that the ancient artefact, believed to depict either Lord Vishnu or Lord Surya, was found during regular patrolling. Recognizing its historical importance, the police immediately secured the sculpture and informed the concerned authorities for its proper preservation.
Subsequently, the artefact was formally handed over to a team from the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology & Museums, Jammu & Kashmir, led by Dr Javed Ahmad Mattoo, for further documentation and conservation.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe entire process was carried out under the supervision of SHO Gulmarg, Inspector Dr Haroon Bashir.
Authorities said the sculpture, crafted in fine stone, reflects the region’s rich cultural and archaeological heritage. The prompt action by Baramulla Police ensured that the artefact was protected from any possible damage or misuse.
Baramulla Police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the historical and cultural treasures of Jammu and Kashmir and urged the public to immediately report any such discoveries to the nearest police station for proper preservation. (KNS)
