Baramulla, May 22 (KNS): In a swift action against drug-related activities, Baramulla Police on Wednesday destroyed illegally cultivated poppy plants on approximately one kanal of land in the Heing area of Kunzer.
Acting on credible information, a police team from Police Station Kunzer, led by SHO Kunzer Shabir Ahmad and accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class Karhama, along with officials from the Excise and Agriculture Departments, visited the site and confirmed the presence of illicit poppy cultivation.
The land, identified as belonging to Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, son of Late Abdul Hamid Sheikh, a resident of Heing Kunzer, was found to be in violation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe illegally cultivated crop was destroyed on the spot in accordance with legal procedures.
Police have registered an FIR No. 40/2025 under sections 8/18 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Kunzer, and a detailed investigation into the matter is underway.
Baramulla Police reiterated its commitment to eradicating drug abuse and appealed to the public to report any such illegal activities. “Together, we can build a drug-free society,” the police said in a statement. (KNS)
