Bandipora Journalist Uses Social Media to Help Patients Get Access to Blood

Bandipora, Apr 02 (KNS): Suhail Rather, a young  journalist from North Kashmir’s Bandipora district has been instrumental in arranging blood for the needy patients across the district. 

 
Hailing from Gamroo village, the young journalist, who has arranged blood for thousands of needy patients, says that he is doing this with the purpose of solving a social problem. 
 
Rather said that he is maintaining several WhatsApp groups with thousands of blood donors and with their help needy patients get blood within no time. 
 
He said that he started by motivating people to donate blood, gathering data of frequent blood donors, putting up requests from people looking for donors on social media platforms and asking his friends to share their blood groups and phone numbers so he could call when needed them when needed.
 
Rather also has a data bank with contact details of over a thousand frequent donors, which he collected from various social media platforms, WhatsApp groups, etc.
 
Whenever he gets a request, Suhail posts the requirement on his Facebook and Twitter handles and  90 percent of the requests are fulfilled online. 
 
For those which don’t get any response, Rather personally texts or calls donors and asks for donation. 
 
Rather said that he also gets contact requests from other individuals and organizations that are helping patients arrange blood. (KNS)
