Bandipora court rejects bail plea of drug peddler

Bandipora, Nov 11 (KNS): A local court on Thursday rejected a bail plea of a drug peddler in north Kashmir's Bandipora district, officials said here.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the court of Principal district and Session Judge Bandipora rejected the bail application of one Bashir Ahmad Chopan son of Abdul Ahad Chopan of Chewah Sumbal. 

The accused is involved in case FIR no. 43/2019 u/S 8/21, 29 NDPS act of P/s Sumbal for possession huge quantity of drugs. 

"The allegation against the accused is that he had dumped huge quantity of contraband in his residential house and the police in presence of Executive Magistrate recovered 1500 bottles of Onrex Codeine and 430 bottles of Maxicough-T in the year 2019," he said. 

He said that accordingly above FIR was registered against the said person and after completion of investigation, challan of the case was produced before the Sessions Court Bandipora. 

"The Sessions Judge Bandipora while disposing of bail application observed that the contraband recovered from the accused fall within the ambit of commercial quantity in terms of section of 37 of NDPS Act, as such the accused is not entitled to be released on bail," he said.

The official also said that the UT was represented by public prosecutor Bandipora, advocate Abdul Majeed Bhat. (KNS)
