Bandipora, Aug 15(KNS): The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm across Bandipora district on Saturday, with the main function held at Government Higher Secondary School, Nadihal.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Indu Kanwal Chib hoisted the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem and a ceremonial parade.
MLA Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat, SSP Bandipora Ajaz Ahmed Zargar and senior officers from the police, civil administration, Army, CAPFs and other agencies attended the celebrations.
The parade featured contingents of the J&K Police, including District Police, Women Police, IRP, SPOs and Home Guards, besides contingents from the CRPF and BSF. Personnel of the Forest Protection Force, NCC cadets and students also participated in the parade.
Addressing the gathering, Chib highlighted the significance of Independence Day and paid tributes to freedom fighters and national heroes whose courage, sacrifices and commitment paved the way for the country's freedom.
She also highlighted the achievements of the district administration in various fields.
Students presented a variety of patriotic and cultural programmes during the celebrations, showcasing the region's rich cultural heritage and the spirit of unity in diversity.
The celebrations concluded with the singing of the National Song followed by the National Anthem. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to the ideals enshrined in the Constitution, national unity, peace, harmony and the continued progress and prosperity of the country.(KNS)
