Srinagar, Jan 28 (KNS): Various localities in north Kashmir districts including Kupwara and Bandipora Saturday staged anti Power Development Department (PDD) protests for ‘failing to restore’ power supply.
The residents told KNS that from past couple of days, they are not getting electricity thereby resulted in immense hardships to them.
According to KNS correspondent, the residents of Kaloosa village in North Kashmir's Bandipora District took to streets to mark a protest against PDD and their legislator for “failing” to repair the transformer that developed technical snag a few days back.
The protestors, including women and children, blocked Bandipora-Sopore road and were chanting slogans against the department.
The blockage of the main road had resulted in the traffic jam for hours in the village.
The villagers said that they are reeling under darkness from past couple of days as the authorities have miserably failed to repair their damaged transformer. “The authorities must not ignore our plights and should repair our damaged transformer at earliest,” they demanded.
Meanwhile, the forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the protesters who had blocked the main road, triggering minor clashes amid snowfall in the village.

‘We are reeling under darkness but the officials in the department don’t even bother to look into our sufferings. The authorities should fulfill our demands at soon as possible,” they added.
Meanwhile, the reports said that the residents of Muslim Abad also complained that their transformer had developed some technical snag but it is yet to be repaired.
They also demanded immediate redressal of the genuine grievances.
Meanwhile, the residents of Burzihama area of Hazratbal also staged protest against the department at Srinagar’s pres enclave and demanded immediate fulfillment of their demands.
They said that the department has forced them to take streets as they are without electricity from past several days. “We appeal to the higher ups to fulfill our demands at earliest,” they added.
Chief Engineer, Shahnaz Goni told KNS that maximum of the transformers that got damaged during the heavy snowfall have been repaired. “Men and machinery have already been pressed to get the damaged transformers repaired on war footing basis. Our priority is to restore the electricity in the areas, which are reeling under darkness,” she said.
She added that maximum of the damaged transformers have been repaired while the remaining will be repaired in a few days. (KNS)
