Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today said that ban on sale and slaughter of cow and like animals is unacceptable as it amounts to interference in religious matters.
In a statement to KNS, President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan said that High Court order on enforcing the ban on sale of beef in state has hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims and is highly provocative.
Muslims are bound by the word of Allah and eating of beef is permitted in Islam and no rules can amend laws laid down in Islam.
It is irony that in Muslim dominated state where beef is eaten generally by people there is a law which criminalizes the slaughter of bovine animals while as in rest of India there is no such corresponding law even though rest of India is Hindu dominated.
Freedom of religion is a fundamental right guaranteed by Article 15 and 25 of constitution of India and curbing the liberty of faith is unconstitutional.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The order is an intrusion to personal freedom of individuals who have the right to choose their food.
The decision is against our cultural ethos and an attempt of cultural invasion.
People especially in villages earn their livelihood by raring bovine animals and therefore the decision will have adverse economic implications.
Beef was banned in Jammu and Kashmir during Dogra rule and successive democratically elected regimens have failed to abolish the law.
State legislators are duty bound to take immediate measures to repeal the law as it is against religious freedom and cultural ethos and is an impediment to economic and social development of the state. (KNS)
