Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav celebrations: Amar Singh College holds seminar on Unity in Diversity

Srinagar March 21:(KNS) In connection with the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav celebrations, Amar Singh College Srinagar organized a seminar on "Unity in Diversity" at the Bukhari Hall of the College today.

Eminent social scientist and HoD, Political Sciences, University of Kashmir Prof Gull Mohammad Wani was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while the event was marked by students speeches and lyrical presentations on the theme of the seminar.

In his keynote address, Prof Wani stressed on the need of the role of society to realise the ideals of "Unity in Diversity" and not leave it to the political system or government alone. “Ideas of Pluralism, Realisation of Substantive aspects of democracy and equitable development will go a long way in helping the realisation of this much cherished ideal of “Unity in Diversity,” he maintained.

 

Earlier in his inaugural address, Prof. Bashir Ahmad Rather, Principal of the college discussed the background and importance of the event. “A multilingual, multireligious, multicultural and heterogenous country like India has amazing Unity in Diversity  which people need to be protected and preserved,” he said.

Prof. Arifat Jan, Head Department of Political Science while introducing the theme of the seminar said that India is a country of Unity in Diversity and is based on the concept where the individual has variations in physical qualities like Color, Caste, Creed, Culture and Traditions.

 

The important highlight of the event was a “Fusion Prayer” sung by students of the college in Urdu, Punjabi and Kashmiri languages, paid tributes to the values of unity of the country. This collective lyrical presentation of the students belonging to different religions was immensely hailed by Chief Guest and the audience.

 Several other students, notably Sikandar Mughal and Asma impressively spoke on the theme of the seminar.

Dr. Tawseef Ahmad and Ms Darakhshan conducted the proceedings of the seminar, while Dr. Kousar Muzamil, Head, Department of Urdu, presented Vote of Thanks.(KNS)
