Srinagar, Mar 31 (KNS): Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad has expressed grief and shock over the tragic collapse of an under-construction flyover in Kolkata leaving 14 dead and more than 80 persons as injured.
Describing the episode as painful and heart-rending, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha in a statement issued to KNS conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families and kin of those killed in the accident and prayed for the speedy and full recovery of the injured.
“My thoughts and prayers are with those whose nears and dears have been killed or have got injured in the bridge collapse at Kolkata”, said Azad.
Urging the West Bengal Government to take a serious note of the unfortunate incident, Ghulam Nabi Azad sought stringent action against those who are responsible for the sub-standard and shoddy execution of the project leading to death of several persons.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“It is evident that specifications and quality have not been maintained in the execution of the project which is why the under-construction flyover came down crumbling like a house of cards, and that the agencies responsible for the negligence and poor quality work need to be taken to task”, remarked Azad.
Azad also demanded adequate compensation for the families of those who have lost their lives or those who have received injuries in the tragic incident. (KNS)
