Srinagar, Nov 18 (KNS): Senior Congress leader, Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday called for a judicial probe into the civilian killings during an encounter Hyderpora area of Srinagar on Monday evening.

According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), talking to reporters at Kathua, Azad said that a judicial probe should be carried out to investigate the entire incident. “It is the case of police not army, so a judicial enquiry must be held to probe these killings,” Azad said.

He said that IGP has ordered to constitute a team of police to probe this event. “What will they enquire as the killers of these civilians are among the police forces. They themselves killed them and now they are saying that they will conduct an enquiry.”

Azad said that for him all the people of Jammu and Kashmir are equal and it is unfortunate that in the fight to eliminate militants, common people are also killed by security forces.

Azad said that during his tenure also same incident had happened in which three civilians were labeled as Pakistani militants and were killed and after the enquiry they were proved as innocent.

“The Police had earlier said that militants were killed in Hyderpora encounter but now it has been confirmed that among those one was a doctor, another house owner and a labourer. For how long will they kill innocent people,” he questioned. (KNS)
