Srinagar, May 01 (KNS): Faculty of Forestry Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology (SKUAST) in collaboration with Shopian Forest division and regional research station ICAR-Grassland and Fodder Research Institute Srinagar organised one day awareness-cum-seed distribution programme under the DST sponsored project on pasture management in the Sangarwani area, Romshi Range of Pulwama district.
According to a statement issued to KNS, more than 200 locals participated programme the farmers were welcomed by the PI of project and Associate Professor Faculty of Forestry SKUAST-Kashmir Dr Javeed Ahmad Mugloo and he sensitized about the role of grasslands/pasture in doubling the farmers’ income and boosting local economy.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Dr Sheeraz Saleem Bhat Scientist RRS-IGFRl deliberated upon the different suitable grasses and legumes for the area along with their packages and practices.
Divisional Forest Officer Shopian Sheikh Ayoub highlighted the role of forests and pasture lands in the era of climate change, after which distribution of seeds of different perennial grasses and legumes was done among the farmers for orchard floor management and in turn reduce the grazing pressure on forests.
