Awami Action Committee observes 59th Foundation Day, calls for release of Mirwaiz

Srinagar, June 20(KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) on Tuesday observed its 59th Foundation Day with the commitment that it will continue to pursue to achieve the vision and mission of its founder and people’s leader Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq (RA) for which he strived all his life.

On this occasion a meeting of AA, cadres and activists was held at AAC headquarters Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal, where they strongly protested the illegal and arbitrary house detention of their Chairman and Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq since August 5, 2019.
AAC members praised the commitment of their leader in patiently bearing the trials of incarceration for the last nearly four years and the anguish it has caused to his family.

The meeting expressed great dismay at the offensive behaviour of the authorities in detaining the Mirwaiz arbitrarily, which is also a serious violation of his basic human rights, urging rights organisations in India and around the world to take note of it and make efforts for his release.

The speakers said that AAC has always advocated  the principled stand of dialogue as a means of resolution of the Kashmir conflict which it believes is the most just and peaceful way to be followed in a civilised world. Therefore, both India and Pakistan should cooperate rather than confront to resolve this matter amicably , taking the wishes of the entire people of Jammu and Kashmir into consideration.

On this occasion, glowing tributes were paid to the sacrifices of the Shaheed-e-Millat and the leadership of the organisation, terming their contributions as unforgettable and precious for the Kashmiri people, who tirelessly devoted their whole lives to fulfill the vision of the martyred leader and also endured the hardships of following the path of truth and justice

The meeting recalled that in 1964, Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Farooq (RA) laid the foundation of the Awami Action Committee and despite enduring imprisonment, bans and bars , he boldly and sincerely represented the aspirations of Kashmiri people while advocating coexistence peace and dialogue till he achieved martyrdom in 1990.

Under the tragic circumstances of his martyrdom , young Mirwaiz Umar took over the organisational responsibilities and since then has continued to play the role of a responsible leader and statesman.

The speakers reiterated their demand for the immediate and unconditional release of all political leaders, activists, journalists, civil society members and youths, including Mirwaiz, who are languishing in jails in Jammu and Kashmir and in outside prisons , urging the authorities to stop using incarceration as a means of harassing people.(KNS).
