Autumn Rearing Cocoon Auction Market Commences at Sericulture Complex Srinagar

Srinagar, October 28 (KNS):The Autumn Rearing Cocoon Auction Market for Kashmir Division commenced today at the Sericulture Complex, Srinagar. The market was inaugurated by Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director Sericulture J&K, in the presence of departmental officers, cocoon growers from various districts of Kashmir Division, and buyers from both within and outside the Union Territory who participated enthusiastically in the event.

The primary objective of organizing the Cocoon Auction Market is to ensure that the cocoon growers of Jammu & Kashmir receive fair and remunerative prices for their produce through a transparent and competitive bidding process. The initiative reflects the department’s sustained efforts to strengthen the sericulture sector and uplift the economic condition of silkworm rearers.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Bhat, emphasized the department’s commitment to providing cocoon growers with adequate market facilities and ensuring that their hard-earned produce fetches favorable prices. He reiterated that the Sericulture Department is focusing on expanding the infrastructure base by establishing more Silkworm Reeling Units across Jammu & Kashmir to promote local silk production.“Our aim is to ensure that the cocoon produce generated in Jammu & Kashmir is largely consumed within the Union Territory itself. The Cocoon Auction Market is expected to play a vital role in enhancing the income of cocoon growers by facilitating direct interaction between sellers and buyers, encouraging competitive bidding, and ensuring transparent price discovery. The Department of Sericulture has made all necessary arrangements for the smooth and successful conduct of the auction process, including proper space allocation, weighing, and quality assessment facilities.

During the event, silkworm rearers and buyers were seen actively engaging in the buying and selling process. Many cocoon growers expressed their satisfaction over the robust arrangements made by the department and appreciated the transparent mechanism put in place for conducting the auction. They hoped that this year’s auction would yield high returns in view of the improved quality and quantity of cocoons produced across Kashmir Division.

Similarly, the buyers also expressed their appreciation for the quality of cocoons available in the market, noting a significant improvement in both quality and quantum compared to previous years.
