Authorities seize ciggirates violating COTPA


Srinagar, Dec 8 (KNS): Authorities today Confiscated ciggirates being sold in violation of COTPA in Srinagar.

According to a press release issued to KNS, "On a specific information that in huge quantity cigarettes in violation of Cigarette & other Tabaco Products Act 2003 are being clandestinely sold by a shopkeeper at Koker Bazar, a team of Food Safety Officers headed by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar raided the said shop and seized Cigarettes worth Rs 42500.

"This whole consignment is without pictorial and statutory warning and there is every apprehension that they might be containing higher amount of Tar and Nicotine. The shopkeepers are directed not to distribute or sell any pack of cigarette in violation of COTPA," it added.

Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration Shakeel u Rehman has requested people in general and young generation in particular not to fall prey to smoking as it adversely impacts the heath of a smoker.(KNS)
