Authorities release AIP leader Bilal Sultan from MLA hostel


Srinagar, Mar 12 (KNS): Authorities on Wednesday late night released Awami Itihad Party (AIP) leader Bilal Sultan from “preventive custody” who was detained hours before annulment of Article 370 last year.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), AIP leader Sultan was detained on August 4, 2019 hours before Modi led BJP government scrapped special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.
According to Sultan, though court ordered his release on bail on October 14 but he was again detained by government forces within the premises of Centaur hotel which was turned into sub-jail then.
He added, later on he along with scores of mainstream political leaders were shifted to MLA hostel and was also denied freedom despite directions passed by Magistrate.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“On December 3, District Magistrate granted executive bail in my favor but authorities didn’t respect the decision and thus continuously detained me in MLA hostel”, he said.
However after seven months of “preventive detention”, AIP leader Sultan was allowed to come out from sun-jail turned MLA hostel on late Wednesday night.
Notably, authorities took hundreds of mainstream political leaders and activists into “preventive custody” including three former chief ministers – Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti – to maintain law and order in J&K. Besides three former CM’s, several other mainstream political leaders were later on booked under Public Safety Act (PSA). (KNS)
