Srinagar, Apr 27 (KNS): Though Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Tuesday called funeral prayers in absentia for its founder member Amanullah Khan who passed away yesterday in Rawalpindi, the authorities on Wednesday imposed restrictions in the commercial hub Lal Chowk to thwart the funeral prayers.
With the imposition of restrictions in Lal Chowk, massive traffic jam was witnessed in and around the Srinagar.
The various areas of Srinagar including Ram Bagh, Mehjoor Nagar, Bar Bar Shah, Jawahar Nagar and Pantha Chowk witnessed massive traffic jams due to the restrictions imposed by the authorities thereby leaving the commuters to lurch at large.
Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested on Wednesday to prevent him from taking part in funeral prayers for the party ideologue Amanullah Khan.
“Ahead of Gayibana Nimaz-e-Jinaza for JKLF supreme leader Jenab Aman Ullah Khan ,Chairman JKLF has been arrested by police and curfew has been clamped in Lal Chowk, Maisuma, Kokerbazar, Kothibagh, Abi Guzar, Court road and other adjacent areas,” said a spokesman.
He said all roads leading to Lal Chowk where they had proposed to hold funeral prayers in absentia for the deceased leader have been sealed by razor wire to prevent people from holding the prayers.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was put under house arrest on Tuesday to prevent him from participating in funeral prayers in absentia for Amanullah Khan today.
Hurriyat (M) leader told KNS that Mirwaiz was scheduled to head a meeting of the Hurriyat and participate in the Gayibana nimaz-e-jinazah proposed at Lal Chowk today.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Meanwhile, Police detained scores of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) activists after they tried to march towards Lal Chowk to hold funeral prayers in absentia in commercial hub.
JKLF activists assembled at Basant Bagh and marched towards Lal Chowk via Maisuma to hold the funeral prayers in absentia.
As soon as the activists reached near Akhada building, police intercepted them and detained scores of its activist including Advocate Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Showkat Bakshi, Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Bashir Kashmiri, Prof Javaid, Bashir Ahmad Rather and others.
The activists were lodged into the preventive custody at Kothi Bagh.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on Tuesday said that funeral prayers in absentia for late Amanullah Khan would be held at LalChowk on April 26 (Wednesday) at 2 pm where tributes would also be paid to the pro-freedom leader. (KNS)
