Srinagar, Apr 14 (KNS): Authorities on Thursday imposed curfew like restrictions in several Srinagar old city areas and Handwara town while the rest of the Valley continue to observe shutdown for the third consecutive day.
All the shops and other business establishments are closed while the private traffic is off the roads.
A heavy contingent of police and paramilitary CRPF are deployed almost in every nook and corner of the old city areas and Handwara town to thwart any possible protests in the areas and Handwara town.
According to an official, “The decision to impose restrictions was taken to thwart any possible protests in old city areas and Handwara town.”
The official said that the restrictions remained in force for the second consecutive day in areas falling under the jurisdiction of six police stations in Srinagar and Handwara town in Kupwara district.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The restricted areas include Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, M.R.Ganj, Safa Kadal and Maisama.
The shutdown call was given by all the factions of Hurriyat including Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik against the Handwara killings by forces from Tuesday.
They have also called for post-prayer protests on Friday.
Meanwhile, mobile and internet services were also suspended in Kashmir from Wednesday evening. The suspension of the service was only in north Kashmir, but now it is all across the Valley. (KNS)
