Accumulated snow forces commuters to face hardships

Srinagar, Jan 06 (KNS): Though most of the Valley areas received season’s first snowfall, the authorities on Friday failed to press men and machinery to clear the snow on roads thereby putting the lives of commuters at risk.
With the non-clearance of snow on roads, the commuters across Srinagar especially in the commercial Hub Lal Chowk had to face tremendous hardships due to frequent slips.
The pedestrians on the roads were also seen helping the commuters by pushing their vehicles to continue to movement. “It is unfortunate that the authorities failed to clear accumulated snow on the roads thereby resulted in the sufferings to the commuters,” Javaid Ahmad, one among the pedestrians who was seen pushing a vehicle told KNS, adding that the authorities have made no preparations to clear the snow from the vital areas here.
He said that it stands the responsibility of the authorities to ensure smooth conduct of vehicular movement but unfortunately they have left the commuters on god’s mercy. “Since this morning, I saw a number of vehicles slipping while scores of commuters failed to control their vehicles and suffered minor accidents,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The commuters said that the department is subjecting the commuters to face hardships. “We don’t understand what department is doing. They are acting as mute spectators as they have not started their work to clear the accumulated snow on roads,” commuters said.
The public transporters ferrying passengers also accused the department of ignoring their plights. “It takes more than one hour to reach Batamaloo from Dalgate. Besides drivers, the passengers are also fed up with the negligence of the department,” Abdul Rashid, one among the public transporters said.
Meanwhile, a passenger who was travelling from Baramulla to Batamaloo told KNS that it usually take 90 minutes to reach Batamaloo but unfortunately with the sluggishness of the administration it took his 3 hours to reach here today. “It is really embarrassing that the department has failed to clear snow on the roads, which resulted in the sufferings to patients, business class and students as well,” he said.
Despite repeated attempts, the administrative officials could not be contacted for the comments as they didn’t receive the calls. (KNS)
