Authorities disallow conference on ‘Jammu and Kashmir-The Way Out’ to be held on Aug 01 at Nigeen Club: OP Shah

Srinagar, July 29 (KNS): O.P Shah, Journalist and chairman of the Centre for Peace and Progress on Thursday said that the Authorities has disallowed a conference, which he was going to held with several political leaders, civil society members, social activists and intellectual on the theme “Jammu and Kashmir-The Way Out.”

Talking with Kashmir News Service (KNS), Shah said that the conference was going to be held on August 01 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at Nageen Club in Srinagar, however, the authorities disallowed it.

He said that he was approached by the authorities, asking him to cancel the conference and following which it has been cancelled.

He said that several political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir including National Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah, CPI(M) chief Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, senior leader Nizamuddin Bhat, ANC vice-president Muzaffar Shah, former DIG AM Watali, JKPCC chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir and several other civil society members, social activists and intellectuals.

Shah said that the conference was held to hold dialogue and its theme was “Jammu and Kashmir-The Way Out.”

“Its purpose was to hold dialogue with the concerned people as is done in every democracy. To hold constructive dialogue, exchanges ideas and way forward. The purpose was to listen to everyone who was going to participate in the conference,” Shah said.

He also said that he met Apni Party chief Altaf Bukhari, Apni Party vice President, Ghulam Hassan Mir, CPI (M) Chief Mohd Yousuf Tarigami and also talked to several other leaders over the phone, however, the authorities somehow didn’t want this conference to be held and disallowed it. (KNS)
