Srinagar, Mar 23 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir chief secretary Arun Kumar Mehta on Wednesday threw open Asia’s largest Tulip garden, located on the foothills of Zabarwan range with an overview of Dal Lake, for the public.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS), that Arun Kumar was accompanied by senior officials of floriculture department, tourism and other departments.

Talking to media persons after inaugurating the tulip garden, Mehta said that since October 2021, tourist footfall in J&K valley has been an all-time high with tourists thronging famous places of Kashmir as well as Jammu.

He said that government is committed to promote other unexplored places in Jammu and Kashmir as tourist destinations and they expect further increase in tourist arrivals in the months ahead.

He said the figure is highest-ever so far compared to any season whether Covid or before and that the government is expecting further increase in tourist footfall in J&K.

Mehta also said that government is going to promote 75 new tourist destinations, Sufi sites, treks in forests and heritages sites. “The beauty of J&K is not limited to few places only, so government is going to promote other places for tourism as well,” he said.

Meanwhile, large number of tourists and locals thronged the garden on the first day amid a series of musical and cultural events. (KNS)
