Srinagar, Aug 12(KNS): Senior Advocate Ashok Bhan has urged young law interns to approach the legal profession with a strong sense of ethics, responsibility and commitment to justice, saying law is not merely a means of earning a livelihood but an instrument to protect rights and strengthen constitutional values.
Speaking to a group of young law interns, Bhan described the legal profession as both one of the noblest professions and one of the most challenging callings in the present times.
He emphasised that professional integrity, ethical conduct and intellectual honesty must remain the foundation of every lawyer's career.
A lawyer, he said, may win or lose a case but should never compromise on truth, dignity or professional ethics. He stressed that while advocates must represent their clients fearlessly, their primary duty remains towards the court and the administration of justice.
Bhan also underscored the importance of continuous learning, saying the law is constantly evolving through constitutional interpretation, technological developments and emerging jurisprudence.
He advised the interns to develop the habit of regularly studying judgments and understanding the legal principles behind them, while maintaining a deep engagement with the Constitution.

"Preparation, hard work and disciplined research are irreplaceable," he told the young lawyers.
Bhan further advised them to cultivate patience, humility and perseverance, noting that the legal profession does not offer instant success and that the initial years are crucial for building knowledge, character and professional credibility.
He said every court appearance, conference and interaction with clients provides an opportunity to learn and urged young lawyers to maintain respect for seniors, colleagues, court staff and the institution of justice.
Concluding his interaction, Bhan said the future of the legal profession and the strength of constitutional democracy would depend significantly on the young lawyers entering the Bar today.
He encouraged them to aspire not merely to become successful advocates but lawyers of "character, competence and conscience", with a commitment to upholding the Constitution, defending citizens' rights and liberties, and ensuring that justice remains accessible, impartial and humane.(KNS).
