JAMMU, FEB 07 (KNS) ; Bharatiya Janata Party’s National General Secretary and Prabhari for Jammu & Kashmir, Tarun Chugh, on Saturday said that the abrogation of Article 370 marked a decisive end to decades of constitutional discrimination against the women of the region, liberating them from unjust laws and ensuring their full integration into India’s progressive legal framework.

Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) Chugh said that the historic move of August 2019 was not merely a political decision but a profound social justice measure for J&K’s women. “For generations, the women of Jammu and Kashmir were deprived of fundamental constitutional rights under the shadow of Article 370. They faced legal apartheid in matters of property, marriage, and residency. Today, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s firm leadership, that era of inequality is over,” Chugh asserted.

He said that the nullification of Article 370 has enabled the uniform application of central laws, granting women equal rights to property, inheritance, and robust legal protection against domestic violence, dowry harassment, and workplace exploitation. “The Prime Minister has delivered gender justice where previous governments only delivered promises and perpetuated a discriminatory status quo,” Chugh added.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

BJP senior leader said that flagship central schemes including Jan Dhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, and Matru Vandana Yojana are now fully accessible, providing unprecedented financial and healthcare security to women. “Article 370 was a barrier to development and dignity. Its removal has paved the way for Nari Shakti in J&K to truly flourish,” he stated.

The BJP leader further highlighted that the Union Budget 2026–27 continues to prioritise women-centric initiatives, with a special focus on education, skill development, and entrepreneurship for women in rural and border areas of J&K. He credited the post-370 landscape for creating an environment where schemes for women entrepreneurs and participation in governance, like the Narishakti Vandan Adhiniyam, can have a transformative impact.

Chugh further said that the women of Jammu and Kashmir are now key architects in building a prosperous and peaceful Union Territory, actively contributing to a self-reliant India. “The empowerment we witness today is the true fruit of the decision to abrogate Article 370, fulfilling the PM’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ for every sister and daughter of J&K,” he said.
