Article 370 restoration is real fight, statehood only a means: NC leader

Sopore, Jun 4 (KNS): National Conference leader and Sopore MLA Irshad Rasool Kar on Thursday said his party's real fight is for the restoration of Article 370, asserting that statehood is merely an "administrative formality" and not the main issue.

"Our inherent rights that have been taken away from us, 'Delhi Chalo' is a fight for that. The fight is for Article 370. Statehood is only a means to run a state," MLA Kar told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS).

The senior NC leader said his party's focus remains on restoring the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, which was abrogated in August 2019.

"Delhi is for that (restoration of rights).Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelStatehood is a small process. If you look at the National Conference's constitution, it clearly talks about our rights and autonomy. This is a fight for that, and we are taking that fight to Delhi," he said.

Notably, MLA Kar's remarks came a day after the National Conference announced it will hold a protest in New Delhi on the first day of Parliament's Monsoon Session, pressing for restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood and constitutional guarantees.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Dachigam National Park. (KNS)
