Army vehicle crushes 2 women to death in Kupwara

An army vehicle crushed two women pedestrian to death at village Panzgam in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday morning, resulting into massive anti- army protests in the area.
Eyewitnesses told KNS that on Monday morning an army convoy vehicle on way to Chowkibal from Kupwara skidded of the road and turned turtle injuring seriously two women at Panzgam. The women were rushed to hospital where doctors declared both as brought dead.
The deaths sparked off massive anti-army demonstrations in the area and youth pelted stones at army vehicles.
Meanwhile, police identified slain women as Naza Begum (36) wife of Khazar Mohammad Bhat and Saima Bano 15-year-old and 10th class student daughter of Mohammad Afzal, both residents of Bhat Mohalla of village Panzgam in Kupwara district. Family members of the deceased women told KNS that deceased were as aunty and niece in relationship to each other.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
SSP Kupwara, Ajaz Ahmad told KNS that an army convoy was on its routine way to Panzgam from Kupwara when one of its vehicles skidded off the road and killed two pedestrian women.
He said that the vehicle also rolled down and hit a shed near Panzgam.
He said police has started investigations into the incident and case has been registered under FIR number 78/ 15 under section 279337, 304A RPC in this regard.
Witnesses told KNS that the incident prompted massive protests in the area and resulted into police public clashes. They said that angry youth also tried to set ablaze an army vehicle while damaging other three with pelting stones on them. Reports said that driver of the vehicle along with other army personnel ran away from the spot to escape public wrath. (KNS)
